Genius Hour Last Blog – 2017 – 06 – 20

Over the past week, we all tried very hard to upload everything onto the new website maker program after our trouble with are original one the week before. We went over the website numerous times to make sure there aren’t any errors, is well organized, and easy to use.

  1. For genius hour, my partners and I decided to make a website. We didn’t know what the topic of the website should be, so we talked for a while and decided we should make a website including some of our favorite recipes since we all had passion for food and baking.
  2. I think one of the main changes we made throughout the project is that we didn’t necessarily use HTML or CSS to make a completely new website from scratch. Instead, we explored with various website maker programs and used its basic templates to start our project.
  3. I believe our final presentation went well. We had many audiences to present in front of and everything went as planned because we knew our material and were confident in what we were presenting. I think the highlight of our presentation was showing different pages on our website because the audience were very interested in different layouts and the designs we’ve included on each of our pages. One problem we had was that the volume for the video tutorial was very quiet compared to all the other sounds in the library and it was really hard to hear.
  4. I think our presentation skills were 5/5. We were confident and knew how to keep people engaged in our presentation. One thing we could improve on was taking initiative and gathering people to watch our project. For most parts, we were expecting people to come to us, and next time, we could probably get even more audience if we go forward to people in the first place and invite them to watch our presentation.
  5. Everyone gave very positive and motivational comments for our project. They had questions like “How long did it take you to make this website?” or “Is Wix (The website maker we used) a good program to use?”
  6. I do agree with the statement and do believe that genius hour has taken me further than I thought. I agree because this project was full of setbacks and problems that we weren’t expecting at all. Each time a new conflict came up, I was able to deal with it with more patience and logic than freak out. This is a life lesson I learnt throughout this project.
  7. This project went by fine, in my opinion. Like I mentioned in the past question, we had many problems throughout the entire process. However, by the end, we were able to pull it together and calmly deal with the situations that we weren’t expecting.
  8. I really like this whole idea of our project. Making a website about our favorite recipes so others could have the chance to look at it as well and try it for themselves is something I’ve always wanted and I finally had the chance to do so. If I could change one thing about our website, I would change the way we uploaded our video. We used Vimeo used its URL to put it on the website. However, Vimeo was very glitchy and slow and next time, I’d rather try YouTube or another program.
  9. One way that the genius hour project itself could’ve been better was if the audience was able to watch the project a little longer. Personally, I wished we could present to more groups and teachers since we put so much effort into the project but only had the chance to present maybe 3 or 4 times.

We used Vimeo to upload the video and get the URL
  1. This week, we tried to upload the video onto our website but had difficulties.
  2. I actually am worried because uploading the video was the last step to our project but it hasn’t been working and we might need to start all over.
  3. This week was full of challenges. In the beginning, we tried to save the imovie file that we have done on my phone to icloud so I could access it straight from the CPU. However, the video wouldn’t download and we had to wait a really long time for it to download again. Second of all, the website maker said that we need to have an URL for Youtube or Vimeo to upload the video so we decided to use Vimeo but that was another 10  – 20 minutes of waiting. Finally, when we had the URL, we were stopped from the website because our content was too big and wasn’t supported unless we pay.
  4. We think that we may have to restart our website again on a different website since the video wouldn’t upload and it was one of the biggest components of our project. I believe we are going to have to do a lot of work even outside of class to get our project done on time.
  5. I guess the challenges we faced are sort of like failures.
  6. In the future, I anticipate on uploading the video properly and having enough time to fully finish our project.
  7. I learned that things happen in projects that you don’t necessarily expect and you have to fight it. I believe we were all motivated to work but were so disappointed by how everything was turning out.
  8. I believe our website is turning out the way it did because of our website maker program. In the beginning of the project, it clearly said that we were allowed to upload videos and we’ve even tried and it worked. However, just yesterday, it said our video cannot be uploaded unless we pay and we were in shock.

  1. This week, we worked on fixing, reorganizing and doing a few touch ups on our website.
  2. I’m happy we are now back on track with our time and moving smoothly with our process of finishing up this project.
  3. I didn’t learn too much this week. We were working with the website builder and were already quite familiar with it. I don’t believe we had any challenges either.
  4. No challenges this week!
  5. No failures this week! We are actually getting everything done quite straight forward.
  6. Next week, I hope we could upload our video onto our website and we will pretty much be all finished! We are talking about other things to add into our project during our remaining classes to make our project better ! (Maybe some more pictures or other fun elements?)
  7. I didn’t learn too much (As I mentioned earlier). I believe that we all had quite a good day and since we are getting to the end and are not too rushed, we were able to work on it with some peace and our minds at ease.
  8. We need to : Upload the video onto our website, prepare our final presentation, finalize and check everything over. I do believe our presentation is in good shape. There were difficulties along the way but the website turned out to be very similar to what we planned. Since we aren’t completely done our project, we will be doing those few final details in the next few blocks and I don’t think there will be time to do another project.

  1. This week, we decided to change our program for editing the video, again. We started using imovie and we were actually able to upload all the videos and finish editing.
  2. I felt glad that we finally got our video done. I was worried at the beginning of class because we were starting over but with a familiar program, we actually got a lot of work done and were able to finish.
  3. I’ve learned that sometimes old and familiar is good. As I mentioned in the blogs in the past few weeks, we were having trouble using a video editor software that we never used. This week, as we decided to stick with the more familiar software, imovie, we were finally able to get it going. I don’t think that there were any challenges this week.
  4. I don’t believe we had a challenge this week.
  5. I don’t think anything failed this week – it was a very good week on this project!
  6. In the future, I hope we could upload the video to the website so everyone could enjoy and finish touch ups on the website for our final presentation.
  7. I learned more tools revolving imovie. I believe that we all had a good day and were very motivated to get this video done – as we don’t have much classes left. We got it all done and I’m proud.
  8. What are other video editing software that are easy to use and is convenient for everyone?

We decided to make  a program called  “Video Pad” To make our video
  1. This week, we were able to finally find a software we want to use for editing our video and got started on it.
  2. It felt nice to finally have our software chosen and get started on the video editing.
  3. I learned how to use few tools from the software “Video Pad.” The challenges this week was that none of us used this program before and we had to kind of figure things out as we went.
  4. I think the only way to overcome this challenge is to use it more and explore it until we get more familiar.
  5. I don’t believe anything failed this week.
  6. In the future, I wish our video could be completely edited, and ready to be shown at the final presentation.
  7. As I mentioned earlier, I think the main thing I learned is how to use some of the tools in the new software I’m using. I feel like we didn’t get too much work done but that was only because we were trying to figure out how the program works and get familiar with it.
  8. We asked Natalie to look over at our project. She said it was a really nice website and well organized. She said we could improve on changing some of the pictures to our own and making it more original.

  1. Over the last week, we tried to start edit the video and worked on other pages of our website.
  2. It made me feel slightly worried because I know the due date for this project is coming up soon and we had problems editing the video.
  3. I have learned that video editing is a very hard process. Our main problem was that we were trying to use Windows Movie Maker but it wasn’t working and our videos were getting deleted even if we save.
  4. We have decided that we are going to use a different software for video editing the next block for genius hour and hopefully that will work out better.
  5. Again, I’d say that our problem/failure was that the software we were using to edit the video wasn’t working and we had to find another to use.
  6. In the future, I anticipate in finish editing the video and uploading it to our website. Hopefully we will have time to organize and decorate our website better, as well.
  7. I didn’t learn much new techniques or skills involving computers this week. I definitely think that we weren’t focused as much compared to other classes yesterday (I believe we were all kind of annoyed that the movie editor wasn’t working and was getting tired). However, near the end, I was able to focus and find another item on my To-Do-List to get done.
  8. I believe that our initial goal was to write our own recipes and share it with others. However, throughout the process, we realized that making our recipes were very difficult and we got inspiration/references from other websites. If I could personally change one thing about our project, I would change the website editor we are currently using. That is because I thought it was very difficult to work with the website and the tools that it provided. Hopefully, if I had another chance to do a project like this, I would like to try using a different website maker software.

  1. Over the past week, we have finally started editing the video that we filmed the week before.
  2. I feel great that we are really starting to come to a finish with our entire project but at the same time, I’m really worried about not being able to edit fast enough because it is all of our first times trying to edit a video.
  3. I’ve learned that there are a lot of tools and websites you can use to edit a video. A challenge we faced was that we didn’t really know where to start because none of us have experience with editing videos.
  4. I feel like the only way to overcome this challenge is to keep trying and getting used to the program we are using.
  5. I don’t believe anything has failed this week.
  6. In the future, I hope we finish editing the video soon and upload it onto our website with no major troubles.
  7. This week, the main thing I’ve learned is that the process of editing a video is very long and challenging. Yesterday, I was definitely motivated and ready to work. However, with the new environment I was in, I didn’t get as much work done as I hoped I would but hopefully next week, I would be a little more familiar with the program and get more work done.
  8. I wouldn’t say there are any big problems to our project. The only problem at the moment is (As I said earlier) learning how to edit a video and properly uploading it to our website.
